Prepare early. Holiday entertaining should be a joy, not a chore. Now’s the time to get your guest room ready. Clear the closet and reline the dresser drawers. Strip the bed and flip the mattress. Linen or cotton sheets and pillowcases should be flawless (we can help with professional laundering and hotel-crisp ironing). Make up the bed with a set of firm and soft pillows, light and heavy blankets and a lightweight throw for afternoon naps. Splurge on an extra set of guest towels, tied with a twill ribbon for that extra “welcome” touch.

Ever notice those three letters on almost every zipper? Turns out, they stand for Yoshida Kogyo Kabushikikaisha, the Japanese company that makes 90% of the world’s zippers in 206 factories in 52 countries. They even make the machines that make the zippers. Their largest factory, in Georgia, makes over 7 million zippers every day. Fall’s the perfect time for a fleece sweater, jacket or cozy throw. Because most fleece is made of polyester, its usually washable in a home machine, inside-out and using the gentle cycle. Getting to clean.

Our experts start by tagging and inspecting your items – we look for stains, tears, broken buttons, snagged zippers. You can help by telling us (or marking with masking tape) trouble spots and stains. Our stain removal skills are at their highest when we know what caused the problem. And remember, stains only get worse with time so make sure we get to work on it as soon as possible. Even “invisible” stains like 7-Up or champagne will darken as the sugars oxidize.

Season switch.

Before you store away your summer favorites, make sure everything’s clean and free of spills and stains. That little white wine spot or Ranch drip can oxidize over time, leaving a brown stain. Pack like-colored items together, and keep everything away from light and moisture. If you don’t have closet hanger space, fold everything (with white tissue paper) and pack loosely in suitcases or a cedar-lined trunk.
