After each use, rinse swimwear in cool tap water to remove sunscreen, sand, sweat and chlorine. To wash after a few wearings, turn the swimsuit inside out and hand wash in the sink, using a few drops liquid detergent in warm water. Gently squeeze the suds through the garment, don’t wring or twist. Rinse well and lay flat to dry. At the end of the season, put your swimwear in a mesh lingerie bag and run through a gentle wash machine cycle with a mild detergent before storing for next year.

Emergencies happen, and quick fixes can save the day (or night). Double stick tape removes lint, fixes falling hemlines. Use a black Sharpie on a scuffed heel. Use a piece of hanger foam to remove deodorant or makeup stains from fabric. Keep a coffee filter in your makeup bag to blot a shiny nose or brow. Chapstick can hold flyaway hair. Here’s the right way to fold a suit to fit into a carry-on. Lay the jacket flat and button it up, flip over and fold one shoulder over halfway to the middle. Lay the sleeve directly over the fold, repeat with other half. Fold the pants in half lengthwise, then once again. Place the pants on top of the folded jacket shoulders, then fold the jacket in half so the pants are nested inside. When you arrive, unpack and hang.
